Domestic violence (sometimes referred to as domestic abuse) occurs when a family member, partner or ex-partner attempts to physically or psychologically dominates another.   Domestic violence often refers to violence between spouses, but can also include cohabitants and non-married intimate partners.   The term "intimate partner violence" (IPV) is often used synonymously.  Other terms include wife or spouse beating, battering, "relationship violence" and "domestic abuse" .

Our district has a BME population of twenty four percent (Census 2001).  Bradford & District is the second largest metropolitan district in West Yorkshire with a population of 467 668.  During 2006/07, 8 663 people reported to Bradford Police that they had been subjected to some form of Domestic Abuse(Safer Communities + Council Monitoring Data)

Staying Put aims to reduce the number of victims of domestic abuse seeking alternative accommodation. 

Our support enables children to remain in the home without the upheaval of moving schools and away from familiar surroundings, and protects the family through revolutionary practical solutions.  Between 2005–2006, Staying Put helped over 800 families in the Bradford District to remain safely in their home.

Crisis Intervention Workers carry out a step by step safety plan assessing each woman’s own safety needs, giving her the power to decide whether to go into a refuge or implement the personal and home safety Target Hardening service. This service offers checking and improving home security and providing mobile phones and panic alarms linked to the Police.
